Apple Crumble

Happy Thanksgiving!
For thansgiving, I made something that I haven't made since junior high school cooking class. This was my favorite dessert back in boarding school days. I remember it well being pipping hot and served with custard sauce......few of the good eats at boarding school. This is very easy to make and so very good.

ingredients
5 large apples (i used combinations of golden delicious and gala apples)
6 tablespoon of sugar, divided
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
6 table spoon cold butter
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 lemon juice
chopped walnuts

method
preheat oven to 400 degrees
peel and slice apples into thin slices
cook covered in a saucepan with 3 tablespoons of sugar, medium heat for 10 minutes and drain

in a mixing bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, cinnamon and butter. blend with your fingertips util the mixture resemble coarse crumbs, set aside (keep finger tips cold)
coat the apples with lemon juice and spoon into baking dish
spread crumbs over and pack down with back of tablespoon
sprinkle brown sugar and walnuts on top
bake over cookie sheet to avoid oven cleaning since apple will bubble causing spills
bake for 40 minutes
serve with ice cream
